You are correct. Unions get a terrible rap in this country and they have done so very much for us. They are not perfect, as illustrated by some of these responders. I am not saying that they are perfect, many are in need of reform, but they are they only thing that prevents the top 2% from completely crushing the life out of working people, what little life they have left in them. If you look at what happened to the distribution of wealth in this country between ultra-wealthy and working poor, the gap started to accelerate in a major way as soon as Reagan broke the air traffic controllers union, and unions were being vilified for every problem under the sun. As the union's declined, the income gap between rich and poor widened in perfect step with their decline. It is much more than a coincidence.
